About the job listing. This is a non-public position advertisement for a embedded systems engineer to join our team. We are open to co-founders, as well as junior to senior roles aimed at developing the hardware components for recording extracellular electrophysiology in freely moving rodents.

About the role: Join and help us take on Neuralink!  As a senior engineer you will play a pivotal role in replicating and advancing cutting-edge neural logging systems. This is a hands-on, high-impact role where you’ll work on designing, developing, and optimizing embedded systems hardware and software. You will help us in competing with Neuralink and other companies in this space using our unique approach to naturalistic behavior neuroscience.

The primary goal is to build a miniaturized neural logger which rivals performance of existing loggers such as:

We already have the components, board designs, APIs, and datasheets to kickstart your work:

What You’ll Do

  • Design and develop cutting-edge embedded systems for neurotech applications.

  • Replicate and enhance existing neural logger systems using available designs and components.

  • Ensure devices are optimized for performance, miniaturization, and energy efficiency.

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions.

What We’re Looking For

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Extensive experience with PCB board design for IoT or miniaturized embedded systems.

  • Expertise with MCUs (STM32) or FPGAs and their ecosystems.

  • Proven track record with low-power WiFi/Bluetooth and SD card power management issues.

Ideal Skills & Experience:

  • Proficiency in designing low-power embedded systems (e.g., 40-60mA batteries lasting hours).

  • Experience with miniaturized systems (e.g., 2-4g devices).

  • Background in neurotechnology development or similar fields.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Strong skills in C/C++ programming and familiarity with real-time operating systems (RTOS).

  • Knowledge of SPI, I2C, UART protocols and hardware debugging.

  • Experience with microcontrollers, microprocessors, and Embedded Linux (a plus!).

  • A formal degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fields

Terms of Employment. We are flexible in the short term with both remote and in-London options available.
